I often get asked when I started to collect Sindy so here's my story
This is sindy as me -- LOL -- age 9 -- I was the biggest fan of the bay city rollers - and so my lovely mum made me a special outfit -- I have recreated that exact same outfit for my sindy -this is when i had lovely long hair --ummm shame we had nits at school - that was it we were marched down the hairdressers so fast and my lovely hair was all gone :0(
My first Sindy was given to me by my Dad & Mum for my 9th Birthday September 1976,
She is a Ballerina -- active doll - In her Lilac tutu She has Ash blonde hair - (mum bought this one as her hair was the same colour as mine) the xmas of that year i got her bedroom set and then for my birthday in 77 i recieved my second sindy a "Royal Occasion brunette" and that xmas along came the kitchen ,
I saved all my pocket money to buy more scene setters, jewelery sets and Kitchen accessories, so my collection really started to grow,
Sindy clothes were always very expensive, so I only had 6 original outfits bought for me, but my mum who was a keen knitter used to make me lots of beautiful outfits for her to wear, I treasure these now as sadly my mum passed away 6 years ago. i will never forget seeing the "Wedding dress" and begging mum to buy it , but sadly no way could she afford it as it was a boxed fashion, so she took me to the wool shop and bought a ball of white wool and a pattern , so she made me a beautiful dress, for sindy instead ,
Throughout the next few years i played endlessly with sindy , My dad made me a sindy house - well it was 2 shelves really in my bedroom and this was filled with all my sindy goodies , (As you can see from my dolls house page he has excelled himself with my new house ) - time went on and as I grew up I played far less with Sindy so eventually when I was about 14 & we were moving house she was all packed up into 2 large boxes and put into the loft,
and this is me at 14 - again i have dressed sindy as i dressed then -- yes you see my tastes have moved on -- haircut 100 were my favourites then - how I adored Nick Heyward LOL I still do !!! - and well the fashions of course I had my rara skirt and i would never be seen out without my leg warmers on -- yes i had the jelly coat and the jelly shoes oh those were the days - fashions now just arnt the same are they BRING BACK THE 80's LOL !!!
Each time we moved -- my treasured Sindys came with me - and even when I left home when I was 22 I insisted Dad get up into the loft so I could keep my girls safe with me. So Sindy went back into the loft of my new home and 3 more after that --------------until 3 years ago that is --------
I was having a good clear out -- lots of bits and bobs had to go so I decided to sell some of them on Ebay , I was looking around one day as I had my Tiny Tears and Carrie dolls to sell and by accident I spotted a Sindy for Sale - so I had a look and I was amazed to see so much Sindy for sale - that was the start of my "2nd Time around love of this wonderful doll"
I went into the loft -- out came my 2 big boxes , Which I am ashamed to say contained a little mouse nest made from xmas decorations and party poppers LOL .
I washed it all went back to ebay and decided there and then to just get a couple of things which I had always wanted when I was a girl , just to add to it to make it complete -- So my first purchase was "The Shower" I was so excited a bargain of a £2 bid secured it , When that came I spotted a doll in auburn and as I never had an Auburn doll I bought her , Imagine my surprise to find her hair was designed to go into bunches --
So I started to look on the web to see who she was -- Hours turned into days looking at all the wonderful websites dedicated to Sindy - I was hooked !!!!!!!! - a couple of 80s outfits came as they reminded me of things I used to wear and then of course a"Wedding Dress"
After many more buys from Ebay and some great little finds at bootsales my collection was growing daily -- along came 80s dolls, then 2gens then 60s , I needed somewhere to keep them all and so my wonderful "Dad" came to the rescue . he made me my fabulous 3 storie sindy house - which I happily filled very quickly !! So I managed to convince him that sindy needed a bit more space and a Basement flat might be nice ,
This came along winter 2007 with the courtyard gardens and path. My collection had developed to a challenge im trying to collect every doll and outfit made from 1965 to 1985 -- Im pleased to say I have most of it now - BUT Oh dear Sindy's house has had a council order placed on it !! she will be sued for overcrowding - So This xmas I have a 2nd Sindy house coming -- In a new style and im very excited I am having a shop too so watch this space ............................ Ill be adding photos as soon as its finished.
I have made some wonderful friends since I have been buying Sindy and selling my Fantasy Sindys on ebay - I never would have imagined 3 years ago when I was looking at the websites that i would have one of my own one & on top of that some wonderful friends who give me help and encouragement to complete my collection, without them I would never had the courage to share my collection and "fantasy Sindys" with you.
Thankyou for reading my story, I send you all a "Big Sindy Hug"
